Want to raise money? Put the kettle on...!

RECORDS were broken and thousands of pounds raised as groups around south Warwickshire came together to drink coffee and raise funds for cancer care.

It is too early to tell how much people in the county have raised for this year’s World’s Biggest Coffee Morning campaign, run by Macmillan Cancer Support, but the area’s fundraising manager Karen Shortt says it’s looking like the Coventry and Warwickshire branch is set to reach its target of raising £97,000.

She said: “We were extremely pleased with the activity and the beautiful weather certainly helped to encourage people to get involved.

“We would like to thank everyone who held or visited a coffee morning.”

Efforts included a successful attempt by staff at the Rose & Crown in Warwick to break the world record of making the most cappuccinos in one hour. The team at the pub steamed up 150 - well clear of the previous record of 106 - and raised just over £92.

Meanwhile Chinasearch in Kenilworth managed to raise £1,100 and the Nuffield Health Warwickshire Hospital in Leamington collected more than £400.

Coffee mornings are still taking place - including at James Hirons care home in Lillington Road today - and money is still coming in.
