Warnings over possible Warwick dog-napping

Concerned staff at Emscote Vets have shared the warning after customers spoke of incidents in the week leading up to the Easter Bank Holiday.

One incident claims that a man picked up a Beagle while its owner was walking nearby, but quickly put the animal down and ran off when spotted.

Other similar tales have since been circulated, leaving the veterinary nurses eager to warn all dog owners or walkers just in case.

Paula Bailey from the surgery, said: “We have had first hand witness reports of what seemed to be an attempted dog-napping on Warwick Racecourse.

“We don’t know if this was personal but please be on the look out and take care.

“Let us know if you see anything untoward.”

Other similar reports have been circulating and police have been informed of fears.

Christopher Kitson from Warwick Safer Neighbourhood Team said that while no incidents have been reported to the town team to date, he would urge anyone who has witnessed any attempted thefts to come forward.

He said: “Apart from being much-loved animals, dogs are personal property and any reports of dogs being stolen will be treated seriously, and investigated thoroughly.

“We would ask anyone to report such incidents to us as soon as possible, or to ring 999 if a dog is in the process of being taken.

“Such incidents are rare but understandably distressing for those involved.”
