Warwick and Leamington MP says no thanks to increase in pay

Warwick and Leamington MP Chris White has joined other politicians in his opposition to a proposal for a pay rise for MPs.

The Independent Parliamentary Standards Authority (IPSA) has recommended that MPs’ salaries rise to £74,000 in 2015, with a new pension arrangement, lower redundancy packages and a tighter regime on the criteria for claiming expenses.

The IPSA made the recommendations on the back of an 18-month consultation with MPs, the public and other relevant bodies.

Conservative Mr White said: “I do not believe that MPs should receive an increase in their pay at a time when many people are having to go without pay rises. I will vote against these proposals if I get the opportunity to do so, but if forced to take the pay rise, I will distribute the money amongst local charities.”

Mr White has previously promised to not take a second job or claim for items such as food, home furniture or home cleaning.

He has published a list of the expenses he claimed last year on his website. To view this, visit www.chriswhitemp.com/expenses
