Warwick cat was ‘alive when she was hung’

THERE was a horrific incident of animal cruelty in Warwick recently when a young cat was hung alive.

The female cat was found hanging from a fence in Kempton Drive, just off the Emscote Road on Tuesday March 15.

The discovery was made last month but all lines of enquiry have led to nothing so the RSPCA is now calling on the public to come forward with any information they may have.

A cleaner at the new development site found the body of the black and white cat hanging from a fence by a long white shoe lace.

The lace was doubled knotted round the cat’s neck so tightly that RSPCA animal welfare officer (AWO) Jayne Fuller had difficulty removing it.

From instinct and experience, Ms Fuller believes that the cat was alive when she was hung.

She said: “Knowing that someone could be so cold and calculating to hang this cat makes me feel sick.

“The person responsible knew exactly what they were doing and for some absurd reason clearly their intention was to kill the cat.

“The cat must have been friendly and placid to have gone to the individual and for the person to then abuse this animal in such a way is horrific.

“I am really frustrated that all my enquiries so far have come to nothing so I urge anyone who may have any information, no matter how insignificant it might seem, to please contact me.”

The cat was thought to be only one or two years old and was in a very good overall condition and was not wearing a collar.

Anyone with information should call the RSPCA national cruelty and advice line leaving a message for AWO Jayne Fuller on 0300 1234 999.
