Warwick finally on track for disabled railway access

Town and county councillor John Holland is delighted that Warwick railway station has been mentioned in the latest Department of Transport briefing about disabled access.

Warwick railway station with no disabled access soundbound

For years Cllr Holland and members of the Solihull and Leamington Railway Users’ Association have been campaigning to get a ramp or some access for wheelchairs and pushchairs to the London-bound platform of Warwick station.

At the moment disabled passengers have to first travel to Warwick Parkway or Leamington to access a southbound train.

Now rail minister Barnoness Kramer has announced 42 stations in England, Scotland and Wales will share a £100 million Government fund to improve disabled access.

And Warwick is mentioned as one of them.

County Cllr Holland (Lab, Warwick West) said: “We’ve been working for years for this.

“I don’t know what the solution will be but it’s a big step forward.”
