It’s known that of 730,000 live births of babies in the UK each year, some 13 per cent of new mothers are clinically diagnosed with depression.

The test can isolate specific genetic markers occurring in late pregnancy. If present these will indicate a five times greater likelihood of a woman going on to deveop post-natal depression.

Those warned in advance will be offered strategies to care and avoid the situation becoming more serious.
