Warwickshire College’s new £1.3 million centre to meet job demands

The new 6,000m² three-storey building will include specialist engineering workshops, 12 teaching labs, three computer labs and three specialist engineering technology labs.

The building will be on the grounds of the Warwick Trident College, which is part of the Warwickshire College Group. This additional funding, which was secured from the Local Enterprise 
Partnership (LEP), means that the college group can start building in December with a completion date of August 2015.

Warwick Trident College currently provides Advanced Manufacturing and Engineering (AME) training for Jaguar Land Rover, Rolls Royce, Thwaites, Babcock and Telent plus other SMEs, which are all experiencing growth.

Warwick Trident College is at capacity and requires additional space to provide training. The aim of this project is to create the capacity to meet demand for an additional 285 advanced and 253 higher apprenticeships in the manufacturing, mechanical, electrical/electronic, automotive and product creation sectors.

Peter Husband, group vice principal for curriculum and innovation (skills), said: “Our students will clearly benefit from access to the latest resources needed to develop their skills, which are restricted currently due to capacity issues.

“The project will connect students much more directly with employment, by building on our existing high quality employer relationships.”

The target is to increase this number to over 65 SME employers, increasing the direct input and influence from employers on all courses, in addition to enhancing high quality work experience options as part of the study programme for our full-time students.”
