Warwickshire music teacher pick up top tips from Steve White at masterclass

Warwickshire County Music Service teachers David Jones and James Murphy have picked up top tips from drumming legend Steve White, after attending a masterclass drum tuition session with him.

David and James were among 20 Yamaha drum teachers in the UK to attend the intensive teacher training session with Steve, who has played with many iconic British artists over his 30-year career - including Style Council, Paul Weller, The Who, Oasis, Ian Dury and Jon Lord.

What the teachers described as an “extraordinary, intensive and interactive day of advanced teacher training” took place at Yamaha’s headquarters in Milton Keynes in November.

After completing the training, both teachers were presented with a signed certificate by Steve.

James said: ”Steve was able to bring into focus what it means to be a teacher and the value of giving wider thought to lesson content, particularly how to make it relevant to young students. Steve has also helped inspire me to find new pathways for more advanced students, pushing both their limits and mine as a tutor.”
