Dr David Spraggett, Chair of NHS South Warwickshire CCG, said: “If you have a bad cold or the flu, you are best to manage your illness from home.

The advice is to rest, keep warm and hydrated and take pain-relieving medication such as paracetamol.

People suffering with the flu should avoid coming into hospital, where there are many very ill people who are vulnerable to catching it.

If someone who is already very sick catches the flu, it could be extremely dangerous for them.

This is a message that applies to people coming into hospital seeking treatment and to people coming to visit relatives.”

People with worsening symptoms or respiratory problems can call NHS111 for further advice.
