Website will show you the way to closest AED

POTENTIALLY life-saving defibrillators are now easier to locate thanks to the work of Defibfinder and the support of people in Warwickshire.

The non-profit organisation, which has launched the Heart of England Defibrillator Campaign, has set up an online map which gives vital information to help people get to devices quicker in emergencies.

The map, which can be found at www.defibfinder.org, now includes 30 registered devices with turn by turn instructions of how to get to them along with, street and satellite maps, travel times by foot and by car and live traffic updates.

Leamington businessman Barry Geaney showed his support for the campaign this week by having an Automatic Electronic Defibrillator (AED) installed at the headquarters of his Hydrogarden company in Binley, Coventry.

Health and safety officers have been told about the device’s location so neighbouring companies could also use it in an emergency.

Adrian Lewis, of Defibfinder, said: “The Zoll AED is the leading defibrillator for the lay user as it gives visual and auditory prompts incorporating real time CPR and monitoring the depth and timing of the compressions which are crucial for survival.

Good quality CPR and defibrillation increases a person’s chances of survival tenfold to over 50 per cent immediately following a heart attack.

“This AED is approved by The British Heart Foundation and is ideal for a rescuer with no previous first aid experience.

“The defibrillator assesses whether a shock is appropriate.

“If the heart is healthy the machine turns itself off and will not allow a shock to be administered, if a shock is necessary the AED powers itself.”

More AEDs are needed in towns in Warwick district and Defibfinder is appealing for fundraisers to support its cause.
