The campaign is supporting the charity again and it was Cllr Margave who switched on the Whitnash tree at a special event outside St Margaret’s church last month.

In his speech during the switch-on, Cllr Margave described the tree as “a focal point for Christmas” in Whitnash.

He added: “with each bulb being bought by Whitnash people in memory of a loved one, it, I’m sure will bring back memories of how that individual brought light into the lives of their family and friends.

“We’ve heard how the money raised goes to Myton hospice to help them to continue to the provide excellent care for those in need of their services so I would like to add my thanks to all those who have given generously for this good cause.

The trees of light, the other of which is outside Leamington town hall, will shine throughout Christmas and the new year.

People can make donations and dedicate a light to a loved one by using the coupon provided or going online.

The names of those remembered will be displayed at the Royal Priors, outside Leamington town hall, St Margaret’s church and at Whitnash library.

Leamington Spa Rotary Club president Graham Snape said: “The original ‘Tree of Light’ concept was imported from a South African Leamington Rotarian several years ago as a means of remembering those of our loved ones who are no longer with us .

“This is the 14th year since our trees were established in Leamington and Whitnash and over this period, the trees have generated around £50,000 in donations.”
