Wolseley to make redundancies before end of year

Wolseley UK, in Harrison Way, confirmed last week that it would be closing an online part of the business.

This will cease trading on Tuesday with the loss of 26 jobs.

A company spokeswoman said: “We have taken the decision to close a small, unprofitable, online business because it has not achieved the level of profitability we require as a business to merit expanding in this area.

“The business will cease trading on December 31 and regrettably it is proposed that 26 roles will be made redundant.

“A comprehensive plan is in place to ensure the closure is handled professionally without adversely impacting customers or suppliers.

“We remain totally committed to expanding our multichannel presence in our core markets and our vision is to become the easiest merchant to do business with.”
