Woman sentenced in cat cruelty hearing

ABANDONING a cat without providing it with food or water has landed a Leamington woman with a two-year ban from owning or keeping animals.

Carrie Salter, 20, of Henley Road, pleaded guilty to to failing to meet the welfare needs of the cat - which she had left at her home on its own for four days in June - at a hearing at Leamington Magistrates Court last Thursday.

It was found that Ms Salter did not take reasonable steps to ensure the cat was provided with suitable food.

Ms Salter was also fined £110 and ordered to pay £175 costs. She is not allowed to have the two-year ban on keeping animals amended during that time.

An RSPCA spokewoman said: “We are satisfied with the sentence given by the magistrates, and hope that this case acts as a warning to other people.”
