Young and old enjoy festive fun in Old Town pub

THE GREEN Man in Tachbrook Street, Leamington, recently held its second annual Christmas dinner for Old Town pensioners.

Landlady Lynn Unitt, who laid on the free meal, said: “Being a community pub, it’s a very community spirited event.”

Around 50 local pensioners enjoyed the meal, which was paid for with money collected by volunteers throughout the year.

The pub hosted weekly Wednesday night fun bingo sessions to raise funds, and Lynn stepped up to provide free drinks - sherry on arrival, wine with the meal and port after - in addition to her own donations.

The diners were treated to songs from a local songsmith and carols by a choir from St Anthony’s Primary School, Sydenham, as as they tucked into their three-course meal.

And if that wasn’t enough, Father Christmas was on hand to distribute festive gifts.

Lynn said she holds the dinners to give something back to the community, adding: “It’s lovely to see people enjoying themselves, some of whom might not be able to get out much.

“It’s been so enjoyable.”
