Anderson is first up for Beaton in Worlds

Steve Beaton has drawn Australian Kyle Anderson in the first round of the PDC Ladbrokes World Championship.

Anderson, nicknamed The Original, qualified after beating Tic Bridge to win the Oceanic Masters.

The tournament kicks off at Alexandra Palace on Friday December 14, with Beaton due to meet Anderson the following Tuesday.

Beaton warmed up for the World Championship by reaching the second round of the Cash Converters Players Championship.

The Adonis produced a big shock in the first round when he won the deciding leg against Raymond van Barneveld.

Beaton had thrown away a 4-0 lead to trail 5-4 before coming back to clinch the final two legs.

He then bowed out 10-7 at the hands of Mervyn King despite finishing with a higher average - 92.15 to 89.02 - than his opponent.

Beaton blamed poor finishing for his exit and quickly turned his focus to the Ally Pally.

“I didn’t perform and I’m annoyed,” said Beaton.

“I was well below par and I missed too many doubles.

“It’s frustrating for me but I’ll put it behind me and move on to the World Championship now.”
