Over 400 runners took part in the annual Ready Steady Fun Run back in May raising over £4,000.

Organised by the Ladies Running Group at Rugby and Northampton Athletic Club, the annual 5k Fun Run aims to raise much needed awareness, support and funds for local causes.

One of this year’s beneficiaries was Rugby based charity Hope 4 who, this week, received a cheque for £2,204 from organisers Kay Shaw and Anne Hartfield.

To help them celebrate, they were joined by members of the Ladies Running group, for whom the run is an annual target event.

Kay Shaw took the opportunity to thank all those who helped stage and support the event. Expressing her gratitude to the organising team and to the local community she said: “We couldn’t put on an event like this without the help and generosity of our ladies, sponsors and volunteers and of course the local community, who came out to show their support on the day.”

Anne Hartfield added: “To raise over £2,000 for Hope 4 is amazing. We’re so pleased we’ve been able to raise funds but also awareness for the work that they do within our community.”

Hope 4 aim to help relieve poverty among homeless and badly-housed people in the Borough of Rugby and work to prevent homelessness. Some of the strategies they undertake include the running of a ‘food ministry’ providing hot food and drinks to adults in need, and the Winter Shelter, which last winter saw a 50% increase in use. Hope 4 also oversees the work of the Rugby Foodbank, which has also seen an increase in need having supported over 3,000 people during the last charity year; this figure included 1,000 children.
