Bains will join more than 500 international lifters for the competition which takes place at the Richmond Olympic Park, venue for the 2010 Winter Olympics.

The 19-year-old will be lifting in the junior women’s category against athletes who are up to four years older than her.

And, having lifted an unequipped total of 320kg to win the All-England Championships in August, Bains is relishing the opportunity to challenge herself in her first global competition.

“Although I have been powerlifting for just over a year and am relatively new to the sport, I have relished the titles I have achieved in a short space of time,” said Bains, who holds sub-junior British records in the bench, squat, deadlift, bench (a/c) and overall total.

“I’m really looking forward to building upon the success I have achieved at national level.

“Combining training with my career has been challenging at times, but I am confident that the dedication to my training schedule for the last few months in the run-up to these championships will prove rewarding.

“This will be my first international competition and I believe it will prove a solid foundation for many more years of global competitions to come.”
