Cleary’s ABC duo prove perfect sparring partners for Woodhouse

Footballer-turned-boxer Curtis Woodhouse called on the services of two Cleary’s ABC fighters in a bid to inspire him to a shock title win tomorrow night.

Woodhouse, who played for Birmingham City, Sheffield United and Hull City before switching to boxing, meets Frankie Gavin for the WBO Inter-Continental welterweight crown at Liverpool Echo Arena tomorrow night.

A massive underdog, the 31-year-old invited southpaws Mike Cole and Gary Taylor to his gym in Sheffield to help prepare him for the clash with unbeaten Gavin.

And the duos’ head coach Edwin Cleary says they acquitted themselves well. “I’m happy with their performances and I think they surprised themselves,” said Cleary, who has also established a link between his club and legendary trainer Bernard Ingle’s Sheffield-based gym.
