Greenfield impresses England selectors

Sean Greenfield caught the eye of the England selectors with a stunning performance to win the 57kg category at the ABAE Senior Novice Championship Finals.

After taking control midway through the first round, the Cleary’s ABC boxer cruised to an 18-10 points victory over Royal Navy boxer Glen Coe.

“He’s way too good for that standard, and probably the one above as well,” said Edwin Cleary. “He was too strong, too powerful and he’s done us all proud.”

Greenfield, who was backed by a 50-strong travelling army, will now travel up to the English Institute of Sport in Sheffield for the England selectors to have a closer look at him.

Stablemate Mike Cole was also in action at the weekend, recording a quickfire victory over Jay Maloney in Droitwich.

Cole’s punishing assult on the Bath boxer saw the doctor call off the fight just a minute into the first round.

Meanwhile Myles Vale suffered a debut defeat against home boxer Andrew Mackay.

Despite putting his opponent down in the first round, Bale lost out on a majority decision and is hoping for a rematch on next month’s Warwick School show.
