The 12-bout card featured the cream of the country’s heavyweights and super-heavyweights and received rave reviews from those who attended the show at the Leamington Real Tennis Club.

“It was unbelievable,” said promotor Ady Bush. “People were saying they’ve never been to a show before like that.

“Even Frankie Gavin said it was by far the best amateur show he’s ever been to.”

In an appetiser to the main show, Mike Cole fought Red Corner ABC’s Michael Green for the Central Novice light-welterwight title.

Giving away 4kg to his rival, the Cleary’s ABC boxer was unable to convert his come-forward tactics into victory as Green produced a far cuter performance.

Paul Dable was the only other home boxer on the show, losing out on a majority decision to Aron Staley (St Vincents ABC, Sheffield).

“That’s the best he’s boxed,” said Bush. “He showed nice technique and I thought he had done enough to win.”

However, Dable may get the opportunity to avenge the defeat next with, with plans already in place to stage a Royal Rumble II.

“We’ve already had people coming up to ask for tickets to next year’s show as they don’t want to miss out,” said Bush.

“Everyone wants to see the big guys.”
