Treasure is found out by Mason

Warwick Racing Club light-heavyweight John Mason claimed an impressive scalp at Newdigate ABC last weekend, beating the highly rated Ottis Treasure 18-17 on points.

Mason took the fight at four hours’ notice, but following on from Treasure’s defeat to Jamal Ledoux in the Midland semi-final of the ABAE Senior Novices Championship, coach Andrew Lambert believed there was no better time to face the Studio ABC boxer.

“We’ve been chasing him for a while,” said Lambert, who has guided Mason to six wins in his last seven outings. “I rang John and said now was the time to do it.”

Mason, whose extra stamina told in the final round, is back in action on November 26, with a rematch against Treasure also in the pipeline.
