Brakes Trust will bring party mood to Warwick Racecourse

It’s Mexican Night at Warwick on Monday and, to help racegoers get into the mood, there is free chilli and rice on offer for early-bird bookings, writes David Hucker.

The food offer applies to the first 200 people booking in advance and paying the normal entry price of £15.

Tickets can bought online or through the booking hotline 08445 793013, by quoting “Mexmon.”

To add to the party atmosphere, Leamington FC fans, through The Brakes Trust, have been working with Supporters Direct and 17 other trusts from Premier, Championship and Football League clubs throughout the Midlands to encourage football fans to come dressed in their club colours, in what is being heralded as the first event of its kind.

Trust vice-chairman Peter Bowen said “Thanks to a unique partnership between the Trust and course managing director Huw Williams, football fans from all over the area will be able to witness the excitement, the colour, and the spectacle associated with the Sport of Kings.”

Bowen added “The aim behind this joint venture is to encourage followers to experience the attraction of both sports.

“It’s part of our long term plan to strengthen links with business and the local community.”

The evening’s racing kicks-off at 6.25pm with the Racing UK Amateur Riders´ Handicap over an extended one and a half miles and finishes with the Ali Campbell Live Here 21st August Handicap over seven furlongs at 8.55pm.

The second is the five furlong Harper Fields Care Home - Balsall Common Median Auction Maiden Stakes for juveniles and a quarter of the 24 entries have yet to see a racecourse.

Of those that have run, Bairam has shown form in both his starts, although was, perhaps, a little disappointing last time out at Leicester when only fourth of six to Forray.

He holds an entry in Redcar’s Totepool Two-Year-Old Trophy (Listed Race) in October, so should be capable of winning here.

Highlight of the six-race card is the Voute Sales Warwickshire Oaks (Listed Race) won last year by Timepiece, owned by Khalid Abdulla and trained by Sir Henry Cecil.

Timepiece followed up in Newmarket’s Group 1 Etihad Airways Falmouth Stakes, a win that makes her ineligible for this year’s contest, so we are likely to see her appear in Royal Ascot’s Windsor Forest Stakes two days later.

Godolphin’s Khawlah, twice a winner at Meydan last year, also has a Royal Ascot entry in Saturday’s Group 2 Hardwicke Stakes but has not fired in her two outings this season.

Set To Music, owned by The Queen and trained by Michael Bell, won four times last summer and, after a close second at Haydock Park last time out, comes into the race in good form and is the selection.

The gates open two hours before racing at 4.25pm and further details of the event are available on www.brakestrust.com
