Cheeseman lands an impressive pike as season begins in earnest at Bishops Bowl

The best pike of the week was one of 14lb 10oz caught by Gary Cheeseman using roach, fishing off the bottom.

The carp are still feeding in Mitre and Greenhill, with the best fish this week being a 26lb mirror caught by venue regular John Buckingham.

The Sunday Open match on Walworth was won by Northampton’s Dave Gibbs who fed caster and ground bait at 7m, instead of the normal pellet approach, to catch 42lb 10oz of mainly skimmer bream and an odd small carp.

Whitnash Royals fished Tofts’ carp lake on Sunday with the first three all fishing off the same bank.

Dave Gillam fished bomb and pellet to win with 68lb 8oz.

Mick Bodfish put together 61lb 4oz for second, with Owen Barnwell (40lb 3oz) third.

Ronnie Mhembere beat Geoff Bliss to claim the Knockout Cup.

It was bream all the way at Leamington Liberals’ latest match at Lakeside Fishery near Hinckley, with William Richardson a clear winner with 23lb.

Bob Calcott (19lb 2oz) was second, with Neil Payne (17lb 4oz) third.

Alan Cross claimed his second successive Warwick & District Pensioners’ match win.

Cross constantly cast his feeder to the same spot at Flecknoe to weigh in 32lb 8oz of carp.

John Yearby had some hairy moments landing large carp with very light elastics and 4mm soft pellets on the hook, weighing in 31lb 10oz for second.
