Kenilworth bounce back to winning ways

KENILWORTH bounced back from recent defeats to record their third win of the season with an impressive six-wicket win at home to Nuneaton.

The Town’s star man was number 3 batsman Tom Lawrence, who hit a match-winning unbeaten 61

Nuneaton faced 46 overs and made 171-8 with Taplin posting 43, Blower 35 and Caratella 29.

Mitch Lowe was the Town’s most successful bowler, snapping up 3-35 whilst wily veteran spinner Geoff Edmunds claimed 2-34.

Rain reduced the Town reply to only 36 overs but it did not faze them as Dave Edmunds (28) and James Nason (19) put on 54 for the 1st wicket.

Lawrence and Goodman (32) then shared a crucial fourth wicket partnership of 84 to edge the side closer to the target.

Lowe joined the party to bludgeon a quickfire 19 not out to see Kenilworth home as they reached 173-4 with nine balls left.

A stunning all-round display from Ross Briscoe ensured that Warwick secured a seven-wicket victory over Moseley Ashfield.

Ashfield made a promising start with openers Qamar (25) andTompkins (24) sharing 34 for the first wicket.

But once the pair were dismissed the middle order struggled against the accuracy of Briscoe as they were reduced to 96-6.

Mohammed Azam then struck a defiant 73 as the visitors were dismissed for 197 in the 50th over.

Briscoe finished with figures of 5-46, with James Wynn-Evans 2-25 and Paul Rowe 2-55.

Heavy showers meant that Warwick’s innings was reduced to a maximum of 41 overs.

Tim Briscoe (21) and Steve Smith (52) gave Warwick an excellent start as they shared 78 for the first wicket.

The dismissal of Tim Briscoe brought Ross Briscoe to the crease and he maintained the early momentum in partnership with Smith and then Ade Passey (16) on his way to an unbeaten 78 as he guided Warwick to victory in the 39th over.

Offchurch/Lapworth put in a fine display with the bat and ball to win by 63 runs at Division One leaders Stockton.

Batting first, the visitors amassed 207-9 with Nadeam Sajid hitting 80 and Sajir Mohammed chipping in with 39.

Stockton were bowled out for 144 with T Cooper (36) and Owen Edwards (25) offering some resistance.

Sakander (4-41), Sajid (3-8) and Ayaz (2-37) did the damage for Offchurch.

Southam’s bowling attack ripped through Pak Shaheen’s batting order to dismiss them for 64 runs.

Oli Pilgrim (5-34) was Southam’s leading wicket taker.

In reply Southam eased to victory for the loss of four wickets.

A five-wicket haul by Stuart Bird (5-29) and four wickets for Johnathan Pettifer (4-58) helped Hunningham to take ten points from a losing draw at home to Collycroft in Division Four.

Batting first, the visitors were dismissed for 176 in 44.3 overs with Radford hitting 60.

In reply, Hunningham batted through to 151 with Tom Painter (32), Jake Hills (24) and Pettifer holding out in the final over to secure the draw.

Leamington Khalsa showed an improved performance against Wilnecote at Lighthorne.

After losing the toss Khalsa were asked to bowl first.

Tight bowling from the Khalsa openers restricted the visitors to 29 off the first 12 overs. Skipper Indy Kalsi led the attack coming back with impressive figures of 3-25 off 12 overs.

He was well supported by Aman Kalsi, who also returned with impressive figures of 4-62 off his allotted 15 overs.

The Wilnecote batsmen managed to squeeze runs towards the end of the innings, eventually finishing on 173-8 off their 50 overs.

The Khalsa batsmen started cautiously with Nadeem (19) and Rajgul (24) taking the score past 50 before they were both dismissed in quick succession.

A stylish 78 not out from Tazik Sharma took the game away from Wilnecote as he smashed ball to all to all parts of the ground.

His innings included five fours, and six sixes and he was supported to the end by Aman Kalsi who ended on 18 not out.

Khalsa won the game by eight wickets with 13 overs to go.

Warwick 2nds battled hard for a losing draw at Bablake Old Boys.

The hosts were dismissed for 198 with Ballinger 65 and Leatherland 48 starring with the bat.

Skipper Matt Hodgkin claimed 3-45, Dave Griffith 3-70 and Steve Webb 2-43 for Warwick.

Warwick made a steady start in reply but struggled against Leatherland (2-19) and Coyle (2-18) and never threatened the hosts’ total.

Opener Jon Davis scored a watchful 42 and in partnership with Danny Robbins (25) he ensured Warwick never looked like losing the game as the innings closed on 114-5.

Kenilworth 2nds’ match at Pak Shaheen was the only fixture to be called off in the 2nd XI Second Division.

Hunningham 2nds were dismissed for 109 in 45.2 overs when they fell to a six-wicket defeat at Wishaw.

John Wilson hit 30 for the visitors but Wishaw surpassed their target in just 36 overs to take 20 points.

Khalsa 2nds eased to a six-wicket away victory at Griff & Coton.

Having inserted the hosts, it fell to the Khalsa spinners Raja Narwari (5-29) and Jay Jolil (2-24) to put the brakes on the Griff & Coton innings with Asad (2-5) mopping up the tail, leaving Khalsa to chase a paltry 90 to win.

Hardip Jheeta’s quickfire 19 along with Raja’s steady 29 helped set up the victory, allowing skipper Mick Gill (16 not out) to smash two sixes and a four to wrap up the game in the 21st over.

Warwick 3rds fell to an 82 run defeat at Bablake 3rds.

Bablake made a great start to their innings with the top five all getting a good start.

As Bablake tried to increase the tempo Andy Lippitt claimed six wickets as the hosts were all out for 234.

Warwick struggled in reply losing three early wickets.

Ismail Khan 27 and Jon Amor 28 boosted Warwick’s total but the visitors were all out for 152.

Warwick 3rds and 4ths’ matchagainst Thimblemill was abandoned.

Leamington Khalsa 3rds fell way short of their target after hosts Attleborough amassed 220-5 .

Thompson (61) was Attleborough’s leading run scorer.

Khalsa slumped to 91 all out, taking just two points from the match.

Leek Wootton 2nds continued their fine run of form at home to Oakfield 3rds in their first season in Division 3 East.

The rain stayed away and Wootton bowled the visitors out for 117 with two wickets a piece from R Jenkins and A Garman and three from G Wall.

R Kettle also helped the Wottoon cause by rolling back the years with a two handed diving catch.

In reply the hosts got got off to a fast start then lost a couple of quick wickets but R Jenkins (38 not out) and J Clifford (26 not out) steered Wootton safely to their sixth win out of seven games with 23 overs to spare.
