Leek Wootton win league, while 2nds make it a double celebration

Leek Wootton secured the Cotswold Hills Division Three title with a 22-run victory over Norton Lindsey 2nds, who had the consolation of securing the runners-up spot.

Accurate bowling from Martin Hall (3-16) and Steve Dellow meant Wootton struggled to 50 for four in 24 overs before a stand of 62 between wicketkeeper Stuart Budd (40) and club stalwart David Johnson (29) got them back on track.

Zain Ansari (19 not out) then lifted Wootton to 156 for nine, securing them the bonus points they needed to seal the title.

Veteran seamer Ian Cox (2-20) bowled White and Baber in successive balls to have Norton seven for two.

Opener Steve Rushton (43) staged a minor recovery but soon after he became Andy Calvert’s second victim, Norton found themselves at 75 for six.

Skipper Simon Hathaway (36) got the hosts back into the game but a brace apiece for Chris Charles (2-26) and Tim Dart (2-2) finished off Norton’s innings on 134.

Leek Wootton 2nds made it a double celebration as they defeated Lapworth 2nds by seven wickets to clinch the Division Seven title.

Spinners Chris Roberts (3-24) and Tom Clayton (3-13) did the damage as Lapworth subsided to 97 all out before Ben Bramley scored an unbeaten 40 as the target was reached with 14.4 overs to spare.
