Wood is named man of the month for July

Long Itchington sit at the summit of the Cotswold Hills Division One after an unbeaten July which featured excellent performances from several of the club’s promising youngsters.

And lifelong club member and current treasurer Martyn Rawbone says our Man of the Month competition winner Andy Wood was a major influence during the month, continuing what has been an impressive season for the 21-year-old.

Wood lives in the village and is a product of Long Itchington’s successful talent-developing junior set- up which he first joined ten years ago.

He bowls left-arm swing at a lively pace and put in some match-winning performances throughout July.

Rawbone said: “Andy’s early inroads into opposition top orders have been instrumental to our performances, as has his economy rate.”

In selecting Andy to be July’s winner, Pauline Carrera-Silva, residential lettings manager at sponsors Warwickshire chartered surveyors and estate agents Hawkesford, said: “It is always encouraging to hear of young talent showing through and promising players making their mark and building a reputation in the local and regional cricket scene.

“Andy’s exploits with the ball make him a deserving winner this month.”
