CYCLING: Ives' 3,400km Italian Challenge to raise £60,000 for charity

Baginton cyclist Mick Ives, 77, has just become the first rider ever to race 60 years of cyclo cross and road without a break - and is still racing.

So his fundraising target, when he rides the exact route of the 2017 Tour of Italy in May, will be £1,000 for every year.

His chosen charities are Barnados, Rainbow Children’s Hospice, Padraic Sweeney Kidney Research and Zoe’s Place Baby Hospice. In 2005, aged 65, Mick became the first and still only rider to solo complete the exact route of the Tour de France, in one day less than the race, and raised £20,000 for cancer research.

The Giro d’italia is 3,400 km long and takes place over 21 days. Mick will be riding a Colnago C 60 cycle, kindly donated by Ernesto Colnago, who has personally made the paint design.

Mick will be using Vittoria tyres and will be supported by B.B.B, with a specially designed white and pink helmet andpink glasses.

Jewson will supply a large double cab Ford van, branded with sponsors and charities’ logos.
