Davison has hand in three goals as Khalsa maintain title charge

The visitors scored one of their quickest goals of the season to stamp their authority on the game, Steve Davison crossing for Gurminder Ghattaura to find the corner of the net.

Davison also had a hand in Khalsa’s second, with his reverse-stick effort taking a kind deflection to allow Mandeep Sandhar to touch the ball over the line.

Stourport shifted their formation in response and were rewarded with a penalty corner that was dispatched past keeper Elliot Rider.

Stourport grew in confidence but Khalsa restored their two-goal cushion before the break, David Harris firing home a penalty stroke after being brought down by the home keeper.

A short-corner clearance from Rider prevented Stourport pulling a goal back after the interval, while Ben Scott’s penalty corner efforts for the away side were also thwarted.

A fortunate deflection created a three-on-one from which Stourport brought it back to 3-2.

However, Khalsa continued to press and Amritpal Atwal gave them some breathing space with a cheeky lob which just crept over the line.

Chris Darling’s cross to the back post was then met by a sliding Davison to make it 5-2.

Khalsa 2nds suffered a 6-1 defeat at home to a clinical Cannock 2nds.

Khalsa’s goal came from an unstoppable shot by Parvinder Sangha after a well-drilled short-corner routine.

However, two key injuries and some sloppy defensive mistakes sealed Khalsa’s fate.

The first ever outing for a combined Khalsa Leamington team saw them run out convincing 15-0 winners over Hampton in the first knockout round of the England Hockey Mixed Trophy.

Despite their unfamiliarity, it took the Leamington Khalsa team just seven minutes to open the scoring, Scott Angliss’ cross from inside the D deflected in by a Hampton defender.

Jas Singh found Gurminder Singh Ghattaura unmarked on the penalty spot to double the advantage and Becky Fleet fired home a short corner to make it 3-0.

Shortly after the restart, Ghattaura’s pinpoint pass found Kerry Luckett to make it four and open the floodgates.

Luckett went on to complete her hat-trick before the break and it could have been more with Lucy Miszkowska having an effort disallowed and Stuart Gooderham putting two shots across the face of goal.

The second half saw a very professional performance with the combined Leamington side adding a further nine goals.

Sarah Evans, Miszkowska and Gooderham all found the net, with Ghattaura doubling his tally.

However, it was the in-form duo of Fleet and Luckett who took centre stage, with Fleet finishing with four goals and Luckett five.
