Dodds’ Lightning progress

Princethorpe College’s Ashley Dodds has been selected to play for the under-19 National Talent League Development Squad at Loughborough Lightning.

The 16-year-old, who is two years younger than some of the selected players, will train and play with some of the very best youth players in England.

Princethorpe College’s head of girls’ physical education Louise Champion described Dodds, who also plays for Leamington Ladies, as an “exceptional defender”.

“Ashley has all-round skills and is a great team player,” said Champion. “She thoroughly deserves this chance to gain national recognition.”

Dodds’ sporting talent has been evident since she arrived at Princethorpe.

She has represented the college at netball, hockey, badminton and athletics, reaching the 2010 Independent Schools’ Association national final in her favourite event, the 110m hurdles.

A keen horse rider, Dodds has recently taken up polo as part of Princethorpe College’s 6th form enrichment programme.
