Duo in world-class company

Sarah-Jane Perry and Emma Beddoes were both beaten by world top-four players at the quarter-final stage of the British National Squash Championships in Manchester.

In the first round, Perry was always in control in beating Lisa Aitken 12-10, 11-7, 11-9 while Beddoes overcame Fiona Moverley 11-9, 11-5, 11-2.

Perry lost the first against top seed and world number two Laura Massaro but came back strongly to lead 8-3 only for Massaro to raise her game and progress 11-6, 12-10, 11-2.

World number four Alison Waters beat Beddoes 11-3, 6-11, 11-8, 11-6 on her way to retaining the title, her fourth in all.
