England call-up for Eaton

Leamington skier Ollie Eaton has been picked for the England Alpine Junior team after impressing selectors during the winter season.

Eaton, who is is a member of Ski Team Telford, will start glacier training with the 14-strong squad in Austria this summer before resuming his build-up to the new season in October.

The 15-year-old will open up his 2011/12 campaign in Norway over Christmas which will be followed by a series of races throughout the winter months in the Alps.

SnowSport England chief executive Tim Fawke said Eaton had earned his call-up on the back of a strong work ethic, which saw the youngster compete in Alpine races in Italy, France, Switzerland, Norway and Austria last winter.

“We have a great squad for 2011/12 and head coach Chris Park has chosen a hard-working group whose efforts have been recognised in order for them to achieve this selection - Ollie has earned his place.

“However, ski racing is a tough sport and this is the next step in the pathway for these athletes to reach their goal.”

Princethorpe College pupil Eaton was thrilled to have had his talent recognised at national level.

“This is a brilliant opportunity,” said Eaton. “I am really looking forward to joining the squad at the first camp this summer.”
