Folkard scored consistently well, with 359 points for the unmarked distances and 339 for the marked putting her into the last-four knockout. She then beat Italy’s Jessica Tomasi 52-50 to set up a final against Germany’s Elena Richter.

After 12 arrows at four targets, the players finished level and the tense battle needed a single arrow shoot-off to decide it. The duo both shot a gold but Folkard’s was nearer the middle of the target.

“I love field archery,” said Folkard. “It brings in additional shooting skills to target archery.

“In the past I have won silver and bronze medals at World Games and World Championships field events and I am now over the moon to win gold on the world field stage.”
