The rankings are based on best scores during the outdoor season - three 12 dozen FITA rounds and two FITA 70m rounds.

Folkard secured 5,309 points to finish well ahead of Brent Valley’s Jeanetta Braun (5,184pts).

Trent Valley’s Rebecca Martin was four points behind Braun in third with Amy Oliver from Dearne Valley fourth on 5,127.

Unlike many of her close rivals, Folkard receives no official funding, making it very difficult for her to remain competitive.

She first topped the rankings at the age of 16 in 2000 and, except for a break in 2003 when she was unable to compete, she has held on to the number one position.

The greatest achievement of the year for Folkard was to win gold in the World Games in Colombia.

She was honoured by World Archery with an invitation to be in a four-man team representing Europe versus Asia in a special event to celebrate the opening of Istanbul’s historic archery field, the Okmeydani.

Other major successes from 2013 included wins at the UK Masters and the British Target Championships.

Folkard has also broken three national records.
