Avenue at home and then Brakes hit the road

Leamington have been handed a tough opening to their inaugural Conference North campaign but manager Paul Holleran remains undaunted.

A home fixture against Bradford Park Avenue gets the season under way on August 17 before successive trips to Hednesford Town and Boston United complete the opening week.

It will provide an early gauge of Brakes’ prospects in their new surroundings, but Holleran says he has every confidence his squad will cope with the step up.

“We’re all aware of the task in hand,” said Holleran.

“The first few games we’ve got Hednesford, Boston, Altrincham and we’re heading off to the likes of Stockport and Colwyn Bay, all big clubs.

“Everyone thinks this is the strongest Conference North since the Conference split into three leagues but it should be something to look forward to.

“It’s no good thinking we’re going to be out of our depth.

“The players are the right ages and I believe in them. We’re up for the challenge.”

After finishing seventh last season, Avenue will travel to The New Windmill targeting another assault on the play-offs.

And, while Holleran admits he would not have chosen to open the campaign against the West Yorkshire club, he says the fixture computer granted his main wish.

“I’m delighted we’re at home,” he said.

“When people got the club up and running again it was this level they were looking to get back to.

“The build-up will be great for everyone who has been involved since the rebirth.”
