Brackley victory is
icing on cake for Holleran

Paul Holleran celebrated his 40th birthday a day early with victory over Brackley Town on Tuesday night.

A stunning 25-yard-strike from Luke Corbett and a late Richard Batchelor header secured a fourth successive three points for Leamington, with Kwesi Appiah’s 91st-minute strike a mere consolation.

With no game tomorrow due to Didcot’s continued involvement in the FA Cup and an FA Trophy trip to Woodford next Saturday, Brakes do not return to league action until October 19 when they travel to Chesham.

However, they will do so on the back of an upturn in form which has seen them rise to sixth in the Zamaretto Premier Division, just six points behind of leaders Cambridge City.

And, after an indifferent start to the campaign, Holleran believes his side are finally getting the rewards their displays have merited.

“That performance and result was the top end of a great few weeks for us and to get maximum points from our last four games is a massive turnaround,” said Holleran.

“I think people that have watched us know we haven’t been playing badly, we’d just been sloppy.

“Now we’ve improved a few little things, we look solid and we’re always going to be a threat going forward.”

“We won’t get credit for [Tuesday’s] result until later in the season. Make no mistake, Brackley are a very good side with very good players and they won’t be far away at the end of the season.”

Holleran handed a debut to new signing Stephan Morley on Tuesday night, with the former Halesowen left-back replacing the injured Alex Cowley in the 72nd minute.

The addition of Morley completes a busy few weeks on the transfer front following the recent additions of Jamie Hood and James Rowe, with Holleran now seemingly happy with the make-up of his squad.

“We moved a few figures around to get Stephan in and I’m delighted to get him,” said Holleran.

“The squad is not far away from where we want it to be and I defy anyone to spend the finances better than I have.

“However, I’m not naive enough to think I can keep everybody happy when we’re back to full strength, but you’ve got to carry as many players as you can.

“If we stay clear of injuries, hopefully this is the squad that will take us forward over the next couple of months.”

Brakes return to action on Tuesday evening when they travel to the DCS Stadium to face Morton Titterton’s Stratford Town in the Birmingham Senior Cup (7.45pm kick-off).
