Leamington looked threatening throughout, moving the ball around the pitch superbly and should probably have at least doubled their tally, but Paul Holleran will have been pleased with the performance given there were two debutants among four changes from the starting line-up at Workington.

Liam Daly directed a header from a corner straight at keeper Tom Turner while Ricky Johnson’s driving run at goal saw the ball sit up for Jake Heath to volley, Turner saving again.

The Causeway custodian was left a little red-faced in the 13th-minute, however, when he dived over Will Green’s low shot, the ball skidding past him into the net.

Johnson had a shot blocked as Leamington continued to pour forward at every opportunity. Daly thumped the bar with another header from Lee Moore’s corner in the 20th minute, Johnson scooping in the loose ball from close range to increase his side’s advantage.

The big striker is certainly thriving on being the main man in attack in the absence of Stefan Moore and crashed a fierce volley into the North Bank.

Turner produced a good save to deny Lee Chilton’s deflected shot, while Daly’s header from the corner was blocked, Chilton firing the rebound high over the bar.

A smart turn from Green inside the box created space for a shot, only for Matt Aston to make a timely block.

Another debutant, Tom Glasscoe, drove a shot over the bar soon after entering the fray, while former Brakes midfielder Alex Cowley denied Green a second with a well-timed challenge inside the box.

Jack Pearlman fired across goal and wide for the visitors after finding a rare piece of space on the left, but the chances continued to flow at the other end, Green sending a flying header off target from a Moore cross.

Brakes finally added a third when Chilton drove into space down the right and his low centre was deflected to the feet of Heath, who crashed a powerful shot into the far corner.
