Brakes blow as Batchelor faces knee op

Leamington have been rocked by the news that Richard Batchelor has been ruled out for the season.

Initial indications suggested the combative midfielder may only miss the opening two months of the Skrill North campaign after damaging his knee against Stratford.

However, after seeing a specialist knee consultant on Monday, Batchelor was informed that he had torn his cruciate ligament and would need an operation to repair the damage.

The nature of the injury and lengthy rehabilitation required mean Batchelor will have to watch Brakes’ maiden Conference North campaign from the sidelines and manager Paul Holleran said it was cruel blow for someone he regards as one of his category A players.

“This is a big disappointment for both Richard and us,” said Holleran.

“He played a large part in what we achieved last season, but unfortunately long-term injuries are inevitable within any squad and we have to manage the situation.

“We wish Richard a speedy recovery and I have no doubt he will return at the earliest opportunity, as he is a strong character.”
