Brakes face Hemel opener

Leamington will open their Evo-Stik Southern League campaign on Saturday August 13 at Hemel Hempstead Town.

League newcomers Arlesey Town will be the first visitors to the New Windmill on Tuesday August 16.

A home clash with Weymouth follows on Saturday August 20, with a midweek trip to Stourbridge on Tuesday August 23.

Chairman Jim Scott said it is difficult to read too much into the make-up of the fixtures, with the Southern League taking on a much-changed look for 2011/12.

“My attitude is that there are seven new teams and a lot of unknowns,” he said.

“It is difficult to gauge as there are not normally that many new teams.

“We’ll have to see how it settles down after a couple of months.

“We’ve lost three good teams, but some clubs coming up have had good budgets.

“One or two of the promoted teams are on the up like AFC Totten so it’s going to be interesting.”
