Brakes’ physical presence delights Holleran

Manager Paul Holleran was delighted to see Brakes get physical on their way to a 1-0 win over Chippenham last Saturday.

Ricky Johnson’s eighth-minute strike was enough to earn Leamington their eighth maximum of the season, but it was the way his side refused to be bullied by their robust opponents which pleased Holleran most.

“They’re physically a very strong side with experienced players, but even without Hoody and Batch we stood up to them well,” he said.

“I’ve given Lee Chilton and Matty Dodd a few days off because they’re battered and bruised.

“It was a functional, hard-working disciplined performance and I’ll certainly take a 1-0 against them.”

Brakes face an unwelcome break from league action tomorrow due to Chesham’s participation in the FA Trophy.

However, Holleran is confident his side will have a game on Tuesday, with visitors Kettering appearing to have put their financial troubles behind them.

“We’ve got to go and watch them again tomorrow,” said Holleran.

“We’ve already seen three different teams this season and they’re liable to have a different team altogether on Tuesday.

“But whoever turns up, we have to deal with it.

“We’ll have to be in the right frame of mind and hopefully knock them over.”

Holleran faces a tough decision on whether to recall Jamie Hood following his suspension, while Richard Batchelor is back to full fitness after playing a cameo in last Saturday’s win over Chippenham.
