Curtis returns to strengthen Racers

Lee Knight is keeping his fingers crossed that tomorrow’s Midland Combination Premier Division clash at Nuneaton Griff gets the go-ahead, with Racing Club having been inactive since their 5-1 win over Pelsall Villa on November 20.

Player-manager Knight had hoped to lift Racers off the bottom of the table with victory at Walsall Wood last Saturday.

However, the match fell victim to the cold snap, with Knight admitting the postponement did have one consolation.

“We’ll have Dean Curtis fit and available for tomorrow’s match,” said Knight. “He pulled his hamstring, but he’s ended up only missing one game.”

With the Townsend Meadow pitch frozen, Knight managed to get an astroturf session in during the week, which he said “blew off the cobwebs”.

The shortage of training facilities and lack of games, however, means Knight is unsure just what condition his players will be in when they return to league action.

“All the teams are in the same boat.

“You have to leave the onus on the individuals to look after themselves.

“If they haven’t and they’ve put on a bit of timber, they’ll be found out.”
