Defensive reshuffle for Fogarty

Saints manager Luke Fogarty will be without two key players for tomorrow’s imoSports Midland Combination match at Alveston, with both captain John Blunsom and full-back Marc Passey suspended.

Passey’s absence could present Leigh Phillips with a chance to establish a regular place in the side, with Mark Cheung a like-for-like replacement for Blunsom at the heart of the defence.

The match will see a return to their former club for coach Andy Taylor and players Tunde Ajibade, Charlie Neale and Jack Taylor, who have all made the short journey across Warwickshire to sign for Southam in the last three months.

Only the Stratford 3G synthetic pitch prevented a total wipeout of last Saturday’s Combination league and cup programme, with Town’s A team drawing their Division Three match against Walsall Wood Reserves 2-2.

Grass pitches around the region had been so badly affected by the snow and frost that Saints’ third-round Les James Memorial Challenge Cup tie at Fairfield Villa was called off 48 hours in advance.

Their Birmingham County FA Midweek Floodlit Cup match at Cradley Town on Tuesday also fell victim to the inclement weather and has been rescheduled for Tuesday 21 December.

This left Saints not having played for two weeks, although Fogarty was hoping to put his players through their paces at Princethorpe College before the weekend.
