Duo depart Saints but Taylor remains

Southam manager Luke Fogarty is resigned to losing speedy winger Richard Robinson and midfielder Anvinder Thiara ahead of the new season which kicks off on August 13.

Robinson is joining West Midlands Regional League side Cradley Town, while midfielder Thiara will be unavailable through work committments.

On the upside, full-back Jack Taylor has turned down the chance to join Evo-Stik Southern League side Redditch United.

This is the second time that Taylor, whose father Andy is on Saints’ coaching team, has pledged his loyalty to the club, having been courted by Alvechurch last season.

Fogarty said: “Richard has moved house close to Cradley, so the change makes sense for him, although the door will always be open.

“We are making no predictions, but are going into the new season in an optimistic mood.

“Most of last season’s squad are still with us and the experience the younger players gained can only help their development.”

Fogarty is still looking to boost his attacking options, but Nuneaton Griff’s free-scoring Mitchell Piggon, who was on his wish-list, is no longer available, having decided to follow manager Steve Farmer to Bedworth United.

Tom Friend, who spent last season at Whitnash Town, is returning to the club along with midfielder Josh Cole from Stockton.

Saints held their first training session on Tuesday and have announced additional friendlies at Stratford Town on Saturday July 16 (3pm) and at Stockton on Friday July 22.

Next season, as well as a Midland Floodlit Youth League team playing in the Central Division, Saints will have four academy teams playing in the Midland Junior Premier League on Saturdays - two at under 18 level, one at under-six and one at under-12.
