Emotional end to a memorable season for Brakes

Paul Holleran went through all the emotions as Brakes rounded off their title-winning season with victory over St Albans. And he admitted the magnitude of their achievement is only just starting to sink in.

“The whole day was great from 12 o’clock onwards,” said Holleran. “When you see the shield in all its glory with some of the names on there, it brings a lump to your throat.

“Everything came together, the players with their children, the guard of honour, the supporters turning up in numbers. It’s one of those days that will stick with you.

“You don’t get many. The higher you go up the pyramid the harder it is to achieve things.”

Holleran also paid tribute to his players for maintaining their high standards even after the title had been wrapped up.

“Since we won at Bideford there have been two decent performances.

“The points tally is amazing, to reach 95 points is a fantastic achievement - we’ve won the league in style.”
