Excitement mounts for semi-final seconds legs in Sunday football league

As the semi-finals of the Rugby & District Sunday League’s divisional cups get under way, there’s still plenty to play for after the first-leg action.

Teams in the top two divisions played their opening legs last weekend, with plenty of goals.

In Division One, Royal Oak United were the biggest scorers of the day winning 6-2 over The George.

Matty Evans scored a hat-trick, with Matthew Shipman, Josh Goodwin and Jack Downes netting the others for Royal Oak.

Dan Bullen and Joseph Moss were on target for The George.

CRC 1st beat Hillmorton 3-1, with goals from Samuel Brake, Josh Banton and Aaron Dawes. Bleu McNeil scored the consolation for Hillmorton.

In Division Two, Braunston won their 1st leg, 3-1 over Caldecott Arms. And in the other tie, Jimmy Ward came back to haunt his old club with a brace, and Jordan Devos hit Jolly Abbot’s third goal against a very lacklustre Bar 8 FC.

If the aggregate score is level after both legs, penalties will decide who reaches the final on June 27.

This week’s games with first-leg scores in brackets): Division One: The George v Royal Oak United (2-6), CRC 1st v Hillmorton (3-1). Division Two : Caldecott Arms V Braunston (1-3), Jolly Abbott V Bar 8 FC (3-0.) Division Three (1 leg only): CRC Vets v Hillmorton Old Boys , London Calling v Rugby Borough Vets.
