FA Cup run dream for joint Racing Club Warwick boss Jack Edwards

Racers won 2-0 there in the same competition last season and Edwards said: “Personally, one of my real regrets in my career is that I never really had that run in the FA Cup.

“And with where we are in the league and the Pyramid, this should be an opportunity for us to get to the next round and push on to the First Round Proper.
“We are pretty familiar with that level and pretty familiar with Lye Town – I think we played them three or four times last year.
“But we know this is a different group and they've got their tails up.
“They have a front three that are quick and dynamic and they really go after teams.
“So at their place it's not going to be an easy task and, as with any FA Cup game, it can be a one-off. We have just got to play the occasion.”
Racers faced two derby games over Bank Holiday, losing 2-0 at Alvechurch on Saturday before drawing 0-0 at home to Stratford Town on Monday.
On the Monday clash, Edwards said: “It was a great crowd and a great spectacle – something that as a club we have not seen in a long time.
“Our regular crowds are above 500 and I think we had 972 here today which was an absolute pleasure to play in front of.
“I feel after the first half we had our tails up and were the better team.
“We didn't create any clear cut chances, but the boys did everything we had asked of them in abundance.
“We asked them for more of the same at half-time.
“Stratford changed things and have some very good strength in depth. But we still gave a good account of ourselves, having come from Step 5 to Step 4 and now to Step 3.”
He added: “They made themselves very hard to beat which made it difficult for us at times.
“Once they changed shape we had to react to them rather than putting our stamp on the game and pushing them back.
“We looked a bit leggy towards the end.
“But we bounced back from Saturday's defeat and that's all we can ask.
“It was positive and I just wish we'd got that crucial goal because, if we'd got one, I think we'd have got a couple.
“We have to get into the mindset that, in this league, you have to take three points from home games.
“So we are a bit frustrated and a bit low.
“It feels like two points dropped as we are a mid-table team at the minute.
“We started pretty strongly and we changed it on Saturday so we could go strong today.
“But on reflection of the game we can't really moan.
“We just didn't create the clear cut opportunities that would win you a game like that.”
