Feelgood factor needs to be built on says Brakes boss

Paul Holleran says he has had no time to sit back and revel in his achievements, despite leading Leamington back to the promised land of the Conference.

It is less than two weeks since his side added gloss to their Southern League Premier Division title with a 2-1 victory over St Albans in their final match.

But Holleran says now is the time to make the most of the feelgood factor which surrounds the club and put plans in place for the continued success of Leamington FC.

Contrary to what many fans believed, not one of Brakes’ promotion-winning side was on a contract, which left them open to the advances of rivals both in the Southern League and above.

And Holleran says that uncertainty is something he would like to address ahead of the 2013/14 campaign.

“Every single player is non-contract which makes my job more difficult,” admitted Holleran.

“We were inundated with seven-day approaches but saw most of them off.

“We’ve had a meeting and we’re looking at restructuring for next season and investing more in the playing side.

“We’ve got to move on, on and off the pitch, and if you find the football team doing well everything else comes off it.

“The place is buzzing and it all has a knock-on effect with crowds coming through the gate, sponsorship and bar money.”

While Holleran says it is inevitable that new faces will be brought in ahead of their first tilt at Conference North, he is determined not to disrupt the team spirit which has built up over the past two seasons.

Rather than wholesale changes, the former Halesowen boss only envisages three or four new additions, believing the bulk of his title-winning squad deserve a chance to test themselves at a higher level.

“First and foremost we’ve got a good group of players and we want to get most back on board.

“The majority of them are the right age and have grown as a group.

“To get 95 points you’ve got to be a good side and we want to give them the opportunity to step up.

“Yes, we need more as group, but it will only be minor tinkering.

“If we get the majority of the squad to stay then we will only need three or four to improve us.”
