Last Sunday’s filming session at Butlin Road proved to be a great success, with ‘Hanging In There’ director/producer Darren Scott grateful for the support of Rugby Town FC and the more than 100 people who turned up to play their part in the comedy drama production – which is due for release later this year.

Valley’s impressive stadium provided the backdrop for the football action scenes which feature in the adaptation of the Geoff Saunders’ novel and stage play, with first team players Kevin Thornton and Mitchell Piggon among those joining the movie’s leading character Jack Jackson – played by actor Chris Hudson – on the Butlin Road pitch.

Darren thanked all concerned for their contributions: “We really appreciate the efforts of everyone at the club in helping to make this happen, and hopefully a memorable and enjoyable day was had by all.

“We got everything we needed for the film, and more than exceeded our target for crowd numbers – and everyone was superb and seemed really up for what we were doing.

“I would like to thank Neil Gurney for his efforts in helping to get players there, and particularly acknowledge the contributions on the day of Kev and Mitch – a couple of top lads who really helped make the football sequences happen and make the other lads involved feel comfortable.”

The film is scheduled for an autumn release, with a premiere in Leicester Square being planned in conjunction with the Orchid Male Cancer Trust charity.

Town are also hoping to arrange a private showing at the clubhouse for those involved on the day.
