FOOTBALL: Rugby Town Girls help players in Peru

Rugby Town Girls Football Club have donated 15 of their football tops to the players of Los Pioneros, a football charity working in poor areas in Peru.

To thank them, the Director of Los Pioneros, Edward Company, has presented the members of Rugby Town’s Under 14s girls team with his own club’s red wristbands.

The shirts were delivered by Chantal Chevrier-Young, whose daughter plays for Rugby Town. She was sent to Peru recently by the charity Accounting for International Development to work with Los Pioneros as a volunteer accountant.

Los Pioneros use street football to equip girls and boys from poor neighbourhoods with life skills, with funding from FIFA, Global Fund for Children and peruvian businesses.

Rugby Town and Los Pioneros have in common that they use football to help young people develop themselves. In both teams, coaches strive to instil strong values of honesty, respect and solidarity, while developing teamwork and leadership as the same time as the kids make friends and have fun.
