Rugby Borough hosted a memorial football tournament on Sunday in honour of Alan Young.

There were 15 six-a-side teams of all ages gathered to pay their respects to a well known and popular man.

Alan’s widow Kelly and their sons Shay and Tommy were there, the boys playing in the tournament themselves.

The trophy was won by team Tr3way, and presented by current Coventry City players Sam McCallum and Jordan Shipley

Brian Crinigan, Rugby Borough Club Secretary said: “We are delighted to have hosted the event at Kilsby Lane on Sunday and it was great to see so many people at the event and supporting the family. Alan was a coach at the club for three years and his family were involved in a playing and administration capacity for the same amount of time.

“Alan was also involved in organising various football events including the AEI Cup which was a very popular event.

“He was a true football man and it made sense for the club to acknowledge his work by naming the stand after him. It will be there for life. We would also like to thank the organising committee - Pete Edwards Rebecca Phipps and Brian Dainty for their hard work in making the event happen.”
