Goal-hungry Racing Club take cup form into league

CASTLE VALE JKS 0 RACING CLUB WARWICK 7

RACING Club took their away goals tally to 17 in three games with a ruthless demolition of Midland Combination Premier Division hosts Castle Vale JKS on Saturday.

First-half goals from Luke Fuller (penalty), Michael Crawford, Danny Charlton and Andre Tulloch and a David Franklin own goal put the visitors 5-0 up at half-time, with debutant Ricardo Richards and substitute Myron Semper adding to the hosts’ misery after the break.

The victory followed hot on the heels of a 6-2 thrashing of West Midlands Police in the Les James Challenge Cup and a 4-0 win at Stratford in the Vase.

But despite Racers’ impressive cup form, the win was only their second league victory in five and Knight said it was important his side translated their knockout success into league points.

“We’re not sitting in the league position we know we should be in,” said Knight.

“We need to show that beating Stratford in the Vase wasn’t a flash in the pan and take that form into the league.

“We want to be top six by Christmas - even top-four would be realistic.”

Knight was particularly gushing about Richards’ first goal for the club, with the former Nuneaton Griff striker heading home after a flowing move which the boss said epitomised the style of play he is advocating.

“We’re playing the way my side should be playing with two wingers whipping in crosses,” he said.

“We’re not the finished article, but I’m chuffed to bits with the squad I’ve got. We don’t fear anyone in this league.”

Racing Club, who released Danny Lennon last week, entertain Continental Star tomorrow (3pm).
